Watermelon & Pirate Festivals: Summer Fun on Outer Banks

There is certainly no shortage of fantastic things to do during summer on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Guests that travel here visit lighthouses, stroll the specialty shops, go kite surfing, relax at the beach, take 4WD off-road tours, fish, parasail, sightsee, and much more. What is your favorite summer activity?

In addition to these standard activities, there are always special events going on all summer long and we wanted to share two fun festivals coming your way so you could plan a little Outer Banks vacation! First up we have the Watermelon Festival happening in Nags Head on July 30, 2015. Besides a ton of mouth-watering watermelon, the day will be full of activities for the whole family. You’ll find a splash tank, face painting, corn hole, and a slew of watermelon contests such as seed spitting, and eating. It all begins at 10 am at Jockey’s Ridge Crossing and you can find more information and pictures from past years on the event website.

Next, you will need to gather up your swords, eye patches and your best “Ahoy matey!” because the Pirate Festival is coming August 12-14, 2015. Also in Nags Head, this three-day festival will bring a kids day, Pirate Invasion Dinner and Games at Pamlico Jack’s, Scalawag School, outdoor movie night, a 30-foot rock wall to climb, and plenty of tasty food. You can find the festival schedule and further information on the event website.

So, whether you feel like outdoor games and juicy watermelon or a swashbuckling good time, you will be happy with a visit to the area this summer! Our inn is tucked away to offer great peace and privacy but we are lucky to still be close to all of the action. Traveling alone or with your whole family, we would love to have you!
