Island Farm In Manteo, NC Opens April 2, 2014

Are you ready to take a step back in time? The 2014 season at Island Farm opens April 2, 2104 and this is a special place to check out. There is something unique about being able to get a true glimpse back in time and experience how life was lived many years ago. This is the case at Island Farm, a historic place in Manteo, NC.

The Island Farm is a living history site that offers visitors a look into daily life on Roanoke Island in the mid-1800s. For guests at the White Doe Inn, this is a great place to spend a day off. The Etheridge farmstead, which traces back to 1757, boasts a home considered to be the “oldest period restoration of a house on Roanoke Island.” Inside it you can see beautiful 19th-century furnishings.

A visit to this property will provide you with endless places to explore and things to do. There are nearly a dozen buildings, the family graveyard, a kitchen garden, grape arbor, island figs, and a cornfield. You may also run across a roaming chicken or two and see sheep, cows, oxen and ponies in the pasture. Interpreters dressed in period attire carry out daily activities. You may even get to take part in helping a blacksmith, farmer or cook! After you have enjoyed exploring the grounds, take some time to join in on the many hands-on activities and demonstrations that Island Farm has to offer:
