The Island Farm is a special place that honors tradition and is dedicated to keeping it alive. Located just two miles north of Manteo, NC, visitors can experience life as it was before the Civil War. The farm has several special events throughout the year that we like to highlight, as it is a fun place for guests of White Doe to spend an afternoon. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, the farm is hosting an event called Island Foodways on November 28-29th, 2014. From 10am to 4pm each day, you can come out and explore old-fashioned food traditions and learn how Roanoke families cooked their food and prepared for winter during the 1850s. Find out the secrets to cooking on a hearth and how they preserved the wonderful food they made. There will also be ox-wagon rides during the mornings. To support the Roanoke Island Food Pantry, the farm is offering $1 off admission if you bring a non-perishable food item to donate.
This is a great place to spend some time during or after your Thanksgiving activities—bring the whole family out for a day of fun. Even Grandma Betsy might learn something new!
