Getting out of your comfort zone is always a good thing—learn something new, meet a new friend, be exposed to new experiences that otherwise you would miss out on. Whether you are a runner or not, taking part in a charity race is always a great opportunity to not only work on your fitness but can greatly help out a worthy organization. This is the case with the Sandbar 5K—a charity running event on the Outer Banks that is taking place August 3, 2014.
One of aspects that make this a unique race is that unlike other 5K races that have you on pavement winding through a city or neighborhood, the Sandbar 5K starts and finishes on the wide flat sands in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. So much effort is put into making this event as fun and organized as possible. The dedication to making it such a great race is to further benefit the Outer Banks Relief Foundation. This is an organization raises funds to help Outer Banks families in crises and people with debilitating diseases.
You can find more on this event on the race website. If you are driving in for the race, make it a weekend getaway and stay with us at the White Doe Inn in Manteo, NC. We are just a hop, skip and a jump away from the starting line and a perfect home away from home to get relaxed and refreshed before the big day. There is an abundance to do on the Outer Banks so in your down time before the race you can walk, shop, hike, bike, fish, kayak and play your way around!
