There are some places within the Outer Banks, NC that are truly set apart – historic treasures that tell a story of their own. The Home and Garden Tour takes place at just such a treasure: The Elizabethan Gardens, a true vision of beauty set on the shores of Roanoke Island.
The Elizabethan Gardens began construction on June 2, 1953; the date Queen Elizabeth II was crowned queen of England. The Gardens opened on August 18, 1960 and since then, dedicated visionaries and thousands of garden club members have worked to make this place one of the most beautiful and unique gardens in America.
The Home and Garden Tour, which is happening on May 10, 2014 is an annual fundraising event coordinated by the gardens and other sponsors, which provides guests a one-of-a-kind tour. You will be given an inside look at some of the most beautiful gardens, homes and historic sites around Roanoke Island. Each participating homeowner has partnered with an artist to display that artist’s work in their respective home. Relax and simply take in the sights or bring a note pad to write down all that inspires you along the way. What a fantastic way to spend a beautiful day in our little piece of heaven in North Carolina!
